Why do you have "CHARITY" listed by items?

One of the more frequently asked questions I receive is, “Why do you have CHARITY listed by items in your coupon matchups?”

Couple of reasons. First, because I was taught about strategic shopping from Stephanie Nelson (aka Coupon Mom) and she is a HUGE advocate for using coupons to purchase items for charity.

The other reason is because it is the right thing to do. Before I started strategic shopping, my heart would ache because I wanted to give to my church’s or son’s school food drive, but couldn’t. We either didn’t have the money (or it was a conflict if we did give) or there wasn’t much extra in the pantry.

But since I started couponing – I see a ton of items that are FREE or nearly FREE with coupons. Some of the items our family uses, some we don’t. For those we don’t, I know there is someone else who could use it and since it is FREE – why not?

One of our readers, Renee mentioned how she has been stockpiling cheap toys this year to be able to give at Christmas time. I love that. Even though all of us are in different places financially – one thing we can have in common is a heart of giving – especially when we can do it for nearly FREE. And that’s why I put CHARITY next to some items.

Don’t think it is possible? Check out what I bought today. The total was $2.85 + tax for a sizeable bag full of food. Gotta love couponing!
