HOT Shopping Trip (Literally): Hen House, Target, Hy-Vee & Price Chopper

I know. I know.

I said I was only going to shop at one or two stores per week.

But then all of this meat went on sale.

And I had sitter for my kiddos – so I took two and half hours and hit up four stores in 105 degree heat.

Shopping Confessions

Yep, I’m over. But to be honest, I knew I would be because I wasn’t chasing as many deals this month. In fact I gave myself an extra $50…so I still have a little cash in my Cash Cow Envelope.

I purchased 34.5 lbs of meat today. And FINALLY my meat freezer is starting to feel full again.

I forgot a $3 off $25 purchase coupon for Target – so my total would have been lower. Oh, well – you can’t win them all.

Free Items: Comet Cleanser at Target (make sure you print out this coupon), Hillshire Farm Lunchmeat (free coupon), Pepsi Next and Wheat Bread (courtesy of Target Grocery Coupons).

It sucks to go to four stores in 104 degree heat for groceries. Thank Goodness for THIS.

My pantry and freezer are full and I feel like I have a good mix of fruits, veggies, meat, and snacks.

How about you? Did you brave the heat and go to multiple stores this week? Did you stock up on meat?

If you go back to Target they *usually* let you use the coupon if you take your receipt to customer service..as I’m sure you already know this. I know I did this when I bought more kids items on Black Friday and went to print off more coupons from my in-laws computer since I had “maxed” out on ours.

  2. Jen says:

How much was the chicken breast? I don’t see it listed on the hen house list?

  3. Lisa says:

Does anybody else take their big cooler with them for shopping trips in this heat? I live about 15-20 minutes from a grocery store, so I’ve been taking our big cooler with us, and then I can save on the extra bags like for milk or lots of frozen pizzas, and just the fridge and freezer items in my cooler when I get to the car.

    • Kelly says:

Lisa – I take my insulated Thirty-One BIG ARSE bag. I put an ice pack in it and it was able to fit all of my produce and meat purchases this time. I don’t know how you would do it without a cooler. It’s TOO hot.

    • Margaret Grote says:

I have an insulated grocery bag that I put all my fridge and freezer foods in for the trip home. It’s a 30 minute drive from our henhouse csa pickup home so that’s definitely a necessary item in the car!

  4. Kim says:

Wish I would have thought to grab a cooler! Next time for sure. I thought I had bought a lot of chicken, 15lbs but you beat me. :-)
